2.2 Mantis Bug Reports

We went through Mantis and had a overlook about all open issues reported or modified since the last Jour Fixe. All issues were screened and assigned to the responsible developers. We discussed in detail:

  • Indexing Excel Files: Mantis 17573 : We decided to keep the file filter for Excel (and other spreadsheet programmes) but to improve the language variables for the available file filters and to mention that for Excel and Calc files only titles are indexed. Matthias and Stefan will coordinate the language fixes.
  • Call for opinions regarding some special situation with Auto-fill for Course waiting list: We can only prevent such a mis-configuration by extending the language variable for the auto-fill feature. We do not see a chance to prevent such mis-configurations technically. Jörg will improve the language entries for courses and groups.

3 Kitchen Sink

DIscussion and decision upon the following UI Kitchen Sink issues:

  1. KS-Entry: Overlay
  2. KS-Entry: Popover
  3. KS-Entry: Preview Popover
  4. KS-Entry: Annotational Popover
  5. KS-Entry: Interaction Popover
  6. KS-Entry: View Regulating Popover
  7. KS-Entry: Toast Popover

We discussed the guidelines suggested by Alexandra Tödt and Timon Amstutz and added notices to the selected guidelines. We please Alexandra and Timon to revise the overlay taxonomy and to work in the Jour Fixe's input until the Jour Fixe at February 01.

4 Collecting Requests for ILIAS 5.2

4.1 Feature Requests To Decide Upon

The following features have been set on the agenda to be discussed and to force their scheduling for version 5.2:

  1. option to skip Enter the course-page if direct join is possible: It is not clear for us if the request is to have an option for joining a course without confirmation as an option per course or to get a general setting for courses with registration procedure 'Join Directly' for the entire installation. The first option would lead to different behaviour for "join directly" courses within one installation while the second would allow only one behaviour (with or without confirmation).
  2. Backup / Restore / Update Assistant: In general, we highly appreciate an easier update of ILIAS installations. But before scheduling this feature we need a technical concept for such an update process.
  3. enable wildcards in user search : We highly appreciate a general wildcard handling in ILIAS and schedule it for 5.2. This requires an extension of the query parser to support the different types of databases and types of search engines (e.g. Lucene). Like today, the mail system should not support wildcard search for privacy reasons.
  4. Creating folders in categories: Before scheduling this feature we need to clarify what distinguishes categories from folders in categories and from folders in courses. It is clear that a folder in a category is a "light category". But is it exactly like a course folder? A table showing the differences would be highly appreciated.
  5. HTML-Download of Weblinks: We highly appreciate this feature. A button ‘Download Bookmark File’ should be placed on the Content tab » View. There is no need to add this option in the ‘Export’ tab, too as it is not an XML export file (and the Export tab is not accessible for learners).
