Revision of Mark Presentation

1 Description

There are several aspects in the presentation of marks in ILIAS tests that should be revised:

• The field "Mark" in a test's learning progress doesn't contain the mark determined by the mark schema but only the mark entered in the learning progress itself:
This is because the learning progress is a cross-type functionality that isn't affected by the settings of an object it reports on.
A generic solution should contain the following aspects:
• The field "Mark" in the learning progress can only be edited by a tutor if the object reported on doesn't feature marks itself. In objects such as tests and exercises, it adopts the mark from the object.
• In tests, it contains the mark determined by the mark schema.
• In exercises, it's more complicated as there are marks for every single assignment.
Provided that marks are always numerical entries, the overall mark could be a figure calculated from those single marks, i.e., the average of all assignments:
• For which a contribution has been made
• Which have been graded by a tutor
• Which feature a mark.
• There could be a new functionality "Mark Book", i.e., a repository object that might be used for several purposes:
• Collecting marks from different objects
• Offering an overview of existing (and still missing) marks for a user or an object
• Offering certificates showing all of those marks for a user and maybe an average
• Offering statistics like averages for groups of users
• Providing a "Passed" status according to specific settings (e.g., in Germany a school class is failed if a pupil has the worst mark in one subject or the second worst one in to subjects)
• Serving as a precondition for the access to other objects
