No automatic log out / Users stay logged in

1 Initial Problem

If users regularly use ILIAS on their personal device, you will need to log in again once the session has expired. In order to simplify the access and therefore working with ILIAS, the option "Permanent Login" should be added.

2 Conceptual Summary

Users can "stay logged in "after choosing an option during the login-process to ILIAS, so they don´t have to log in every time they want to use ILIAS. They are still logged in even after closing the browser and shutting down their device.
The following description is added: "Tick this option only if you are using a secure personal device - never on a publicly accessible device in order to avoid abuse. Always log out properly in each case!"
The checkbox is inactive per default.

Needs to be clarified:

  • The function only works with Authentication method: local ILIAS DB.
  • Lifetime setting is to be elaborated (suggestion: 1 month).

7 Discussion

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], August 17, 2015: Is this feature session-based? And if so, what happens when I have enabled the deletion of web log data in my browser when quitting the application? Or do you prevent this in some way?

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], August 17, 2015: We highly appreciate the feature but require the following changes to schedul it for 5.1

  • that the feature can be enabled / disabled globally in the administration
  • that the feature supports also the following authentication methods: LDAP, Apache, RADIUSM

8 Implementation

{The maintainer has to give a description of the final implementation and add screenshots if possible.}
