Show Learning Plan in Separate Tab

1 Initial Problem

By now (v5.2.x), the Learning Plan is quite hidden in a course: Only after switching to a special view of the "Content" tab, it becomes visible.
In Courses with Learning Plan, however, it is the most important means of orientation for the learner, so it should be presented in a more prominent way.

2 Conceptual Summary

There are some different ways to accomplish this:

  1. Learning Plan is displayed as the default view of the "Content" tab (has been like that in the past and was discarded)
  2. Learning Plan replaces normal "Content" view
  3. Learning Plan becomes a tab of its own (and may be displayed first when opening the course - like it's possible with News)
In our view, the last alternative is the best one.

3 User Interface Modifications

  • crs/settings/crs_settings: Additional sub-setting for "Presentation Type > Timings View" called "Landing Page"
  • new tab for Learning Plan: Looks like the old "Timings" view of the "Content" tab
