Automatic setting of links

1 Requirements

Status quo/Problem:
Up to now, links in Wikis can only be manually set. Think of an item XY in a category A which includes a link to category B. If one wants to also have a link of item XY in category B, a new link in category be has to be set manually. If you arrange items in categories A to M, you will have much work setting links in every new category.

Example:
We encounter this problem in the simulatorennetzwerk.de. There we have four main categories "Simulators", "Simulation Centers" ("Skills Labs"), "Specialities" and "Organ System". A "Simulator" Wiki page contains the links the all other three categories providing the user with the possibility to sort the simulators. E.g. a simulator which is linked to the speciality "cardiology" of the category "specialities". Clicking on the link "cardiology" will open a wiki page, where all simulators linked to "cardiology" are listed. But to achieve this, one has to manually place a link on the "simulator" wiki page AND on the speciality (e.g. "cardiology") wiki page.  This has to be done for all the categories.

This is a extra work, which many of the users refrain from doing, which leads to a loss of structure in our wiki.

Suggestion:
There should be an option to automatically set a link on a wiki page back to another wiki page.

4 Discussion

JF 17 Feb 2014: We are pretty sure that this problem can be solved by the Custom Metadata for Wiki feature, which is scheduled for 4.5. Instead of representing categories as links and pages they are selected as metadata for pages. A new page element "Page List" will allow to include "dynamic" lists based on metadata.
