Gaps within words (Cloze question enhancement)

1 Initial Problem

In case a tutor uses gaps within words in a cloze question, problems arise in the responsive display of such questions. In case the word containing the gap hits a line break, the leading or ending string can be hard to see for participants.

Responsive design breaks up leading text and the connected gap.

2 Conceptual Summary

Cloze questions could offer two new values for gaps, a starting and an ending string. The starting string, the ending string and the gap itself then need to be rendered as a unit that must not be broken by a line-break. In case the screen size is too small all the elements should be moved to the next line. In addition starting string and ending string could be marked bold to make them more visible.
