Display starting time

1 Initial Problem

If tests have a starting time, users first see this after clicking on the test. If the test has an availability also, this can be quite confusing, because users might mix up the availability and the starting / finishing time.

2 Conceptual Summary

In order to avoid too many frustrating clicks, it would be helpful if the starting time is displayed on top level of the course/group/folder within the test object listing's properties.

Should the finishing time be displayed, too?

It would be helpful to see the finishing time, too, but as finishing and starting time can be activated separately, it is not possible to set a period. Best would be to display both in a row, if this is not too long (see picture below). There are different options:

• Option 1: Display starting and finishing time in a row, if both are activated; if only one is activated, only this one is displayed
• Option 2: Display only starting time until starting time has reached; then: display finishing time (disadvantage: users do not see directly how much time they have until the test has to be finished)

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], 02 DEC 2018: Instead of 'starting time' and 'finishing time' I recommend to simply use 'Starts' and 'Ends' ('Beginnt' und 'Endet') in the ListGUI. And we should define a default character that separates value combinations like 'Starts: ...' and 'Ends: ...'. I wouldn't take the semicolon but a more visual separator, e.g. • or |

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 03 DEC 2018 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and accept it for 6.0. Please show always starting and finishing time (when entered). And please use "Starts..." according to Matthias' suggestion and a pipe ( | ) as visual separator between both entries.

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel] @ SIG EA, 13 NOV 2019 : The separation of the Test&Assessment has been postponed to ILIAS 7 because the project cannot be finished satisfactorily until 'Coding Completed' at NOV 29. Therefore, this feature won't make it into ILIAS 6 but is now suggested for ILIAS 7. Please add it to the JF agenda to schedule it again.
