Make Star Rating Accessible

1 Initial Problem

  • The screenreader reads  "Link Grafic (1/5) (2/5) (3/5) (4/5) (5/5)" but does not read how many stars were awarded.
  • The star rating is implemented as Link. The Pop-Up is not identified by the screenreader.
  • The alt-text is misleading: It reads "Stars" instead of "Open Rating".
  • The stars awarded by others is not perceivable.

2 Conceptual Summary

The rating should be screenreadable and assignable via keyboard.

7 Discussion

Killing, Alexander [alex], 7 June 2019: I support this request. The KS Popover should be used instead. Do we want to have stars being KS elements as well?

Tödt, Alexandra [atoedt] 2019-06-11: CaT has devleoped a radio-control based start rating. Richard can provide details

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 17 JUN  2019 : We highly appreciate this suggestion to make the star rating accessible and accept this request for 6.0. Using the KS Popover is fine for us, introducing the stars into the KS, too.

Schmidt-Sielex, Wolfgang [WSS] 2023-07-20: Feature has been discussed by a sub-group of SIG accessibility and pushed to 'suggested for 10'. We need keyboard control and screen reader support. See also Mantis bug: https://mantis.ilias.de/view.php?id=33588. Needs clarity whether it's a bug or a feature?

8 Implementation

{The maintainer has to give a description of the final implementation and add screenshots if possible.}
