Enter Text in Assignment Accordion

1 Initial Problem

Handing in files in an Assignment of the type "Text" requires:

  1. Opening the accoridon.
  2. Clicking on "Edit Text"-Button.
  3. Being taken to a submission underworld, loosing the assignment instruction.
  4. Typing in the text into a text input field.
  5. Clicking "Save and Return"-Button.
  6. Being presented with date and time of submission and action "Edit Text" but not with the submitted text, bummer.
Not seeing what you did submit makes participants feels uneasy.

2 Conceptual Summary

  1. The accordion offers a Text Area Field Input.  The buttons are the same as they are today.
  2. One of the following:
    • If the text is saved but not handed in, the text input stays within the text area.
    • If the text is neither saved but nor handed in, the text input vanishes after navigating.
    • If the text is saved and handed in, the text is presented in the the accordions body along the submission date. As long as working time has not elapsed, the "Edit Text"-Button is presented. Once working time elapses not button is presented.

7 Discussion

Killing, Alexander [alex], 10 July 2019: I would not do this. The workflow would be very different for the different types of assignments. We are also facing issues with the separation of presentation and editing list under separate subtabs. My preference would be to

  • Move from the accordion to an standard item list presentation.
  • Have only one list (not a learner and an author version of it).
  • Provide "Edit" actions in dropdowns for each item, if author permission is given.
  • For learners: Clicking a title in the list will move them to the "Hand in" or "Peer Review" workflow, depending on the current phase.
  • The "Hand In" screen should always show the instructions on the left hand in a slate (same as envisaged for portfolios/blogs), to give all assignment types a similar look. The instructions should also be available in a tool slate in team wikis.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 21 OCT 2019 : We see the maintainer's concerns and would prefer a different solution for the presented requirement, similar to the way we used for Scaffolded Exercise. Please update the request accordingly (and change its title).

8 Implementation

{The maintainer has to give a description of the final implementation and add screenshots if possible.}
