Improving Essay Question - Comments in Manual Scoring

1 Initial Problem

Corrections for Essay Questions are done in the tab "Manual Scoring". If no automatic scoring is active, the corrector has to read the text and enter the amount of awarded points underneath. Sometimes the answers can be quite long and correctors have to scroll up and down numerous times to check if the participant has mentioned all required aspects in his/her answer. It is often mentioned that the option to highlight or mark certain words is missing (which is usual when correcting a test that is written on paper). This is why a lot of correctors are printing the answers from the test, mark them on the paper and enter the awarded points into ILIAS afterwards.

2 Conceptual Summary

The usability of the Manual Scoring tab should be improved.
Correctors should be able to mark / highlight / annotate the participants' answer in ILIAS so that it is easier to get the essences at a glance and printouts are no longer needed.
We urgently need a solution against the scroll problem, which prevents simultaneous view of comments and text of the participant. The feature of the marker in the text with a form of edge remarks is desirable.
