1 Description
Purpose
Popovers can be used when space is scarce. They offer either secondary information to be displayed or entered.
Composition
Popovers consist of a layer displayed above all other content. Popovers contain a pointer connecting the Popover with the trigger.
Effect
Popovers are shown upon clicking or hovering over a trigger such as a Button, Slate, Link, Tab, Sub-Tab, Secondary Panel, Table column heading or Glyph. The position of the Popover is calculated automatically by default. However, it is possible to specify if the popover appears horizontal (left, right) or vertical (top, bottom) relative to its trigger.
2 Rules
Usage
- Popovers MUST NOT contain horizontal scrollbars.
- Popovers MAY contain vertical scrollbars. The content component is responsible to define its own height and show vertical scrollbars.
Interaction
- Provoking and dismissing a Popover depend on the variety of the Popover and is outlined in the respective article.
Style
- Popovers MUST always relate to the Trigger by a little pointer.
Accessibility
- There MUST be a way to open the Popover by only using the keyboard.
