Interactive Video - editable table of contents / parts of the video (sidebar in player)

If you need any help in filling out this wiki page, please visit our ILIAS Community FAQ. And please complete the metadata information in the right column after having created the page.

1 Initial Problem

{Please give a brief description of the problem you want to be solved.}

It is currently not possible to add a table of contents on the sidebar. You can do it with "comments" but if you add the comments options to the students or you want to add comments by yourself, it's not clear anymore.

2 Conceptual Summary

The idea is to add a table of contents next to or into the video to show the different chapters of the video. That allows the user to have an overall view and to navigate freely in the video. The user can go directly to a chapter and jump from one to another.

Here are examples:

{Please add a brief summary on how you would like the problem to be solved.}

3 User Interface Modifications

3.1 List of Affected Views

{Please list all views (screens) of ILIAS that should be modified, newly introduced or removed.}

To be able to add a chapter to the list of contents there should be a new Tab "Table of content". There similar to the tab "Quesions and Comments" new chapters can be created using the button "Create chapter". Existing chapters can be edited using via the table below (similar to comments).

Like in the comment window, a chapter window must be added to fill in the title and the start time of the chapter. No end time is needed.

3.2 User Interface Details

{For each of these views please list all user interface elements that should be modified, added or removed. Please provide the textual appearance of the UI elements and their interactive behaviour.}

3.2.1 Option A: Table of content in a new Tab to switch between «Comments» and «Table of content»

The chapters are shown at the same position where the comments are shown at the moment in a new tab called "Table of contents". A user can switch between comment- and table of contents-view by selecting the according tab.

3.2.2 Option B: Table of content as semi transparent overlay

Once the chapters are added users can see the table of contents in the video as some kind of semi transparent overlay. The table of contents can be reduced by clicking on the cross or the "table of content" icon. To reopen it users have to click on the "table of content" icon (to be defined).
The chapters are indicated on the timeline of the video and can still be seen on the timeline if the table of content is hidden.

In the tab "settings" there will be new checkbox called "Start with table of contents open". There administrators can decide if the table of content is hidden or shown when a users opens an interactive video.

To be defined:

  • How large should the semi transparent overlay be?

3.3 New User Interface Concepts
