Editor for Mail Content

1 Requirements

By now (version 5.1), there is no way to format the message text in the ILIAS mail System.
At least options like within forum postings would be desirable.

3 Discussion

Jansen, Michael [mjansen] The support of HTML in (internal) ILIAS messages has been rejected several times by the JF because of possible security issues.
Should the JF not follow it's previous opinion, we should explicitly define which HTML elements should be valid (e.g. inline images have to be media objects, the WAC support has to be added, they have to be included as inline images when sent to external mailboxes etc., so even such tiny things can lead to much effort).

Furthermore there is exactly no HTML email in any ILIAS out there. If internal HTML messages will be supported with ILIAS >= 5.3.x, each message delivery in ILIAS has to be flagged (is_html: 0/1) by the consuming component (a course, a survey etc., a forum), because of different requirements regarding the presentation in ILIAS. HTML emails (if purified) do not need further processing, but e.g. new lines in plain text emails have be replaced with HTML break elements etc..
