Computing Arithmetic Mean for Questions
Page Overview
[Hide]1 Initial Problem
Single Choice Questions do not offer an arithmetic mean. Typically they do not offer the level / scale of measurement allowing for it.
2 Conceptual Summary
If questions have the measurement level i.e. a Rating or a Likert scale, users should be able to activate a checkbox "Compute Arithmetic Mean".
The Weighted Avarage is computed as:
- Multiply the number of individuals selecting each answer option by the corresponding scale value
- Make a sum total of the results of those calculations
- Divide that result by the total number of responses to the question
In the results the Arithmetic Mean should be displayed.
