Computing Arithmetic Mean for Questions

1 Initial Problem

Single Choice Questions do not offer an arithmetic mean. Typically they do not offer the level / scale of measurement allowing for it.

2 Conceptual Summary

If questions have the measurement level i.e. a Rating or a Likert scale, users should be able to activate a checkbox "Compute Arithmetic Mean".
The Weighted Avarage is computed as:

  1. Multiply the number of individuals selecting each answer option by the corresponding scale value
  2. Make a sum total of the results of those calculations
  3. Divide that result by the total number of responses to the question
The selections of the neutral option will not be factored in but left out.
In the results the Arithmetic Mean should be displayed.
