Right and Wrong Instead of Points

1 Requirements

At the time being, a test author cannot define and toggle which answer is right or wrong but needs to do this by giving points. This is very implicit and leads to some serious problems:

  • In MC questions with multiple responses you need to give points for the right answer by giving points when selected and negative points when not selected, while you need to give points for the wrong answer when not selected and negative points when selected. That is always difficult to explain to new users and often not done right by authors (they give only points for the right answer).
  • MC with multiple responses get usually more points (e.g. one for each answer - toggled or not) than single response MC. This makes it difficult to create a pool of questions with the same "weight" (points) that could be used by random tests.
It would be much better to give up this approach and to introduce a new concept:
  1. In every question a test author decides which is the right answer.
  2. For every question a test author decides how much points are given for the right answer (and if wanted for a partly right answer).

4 Discussion

JF 3 Mar 2013: We agree that this could be improved but there are two main issues that need to be solved:

  • How are points for partly correct answers defined?
  • How are existing questions migrated, if this new (simpler) editing should completely replace the existing implementation?
