Show full description in object lists

Descriptions of objects are currenty truncated in object lists of containers (courses and so on). An option in the administration should allow to show the full description here.

2012-04-04 KS: I had this kind of request today where a user wants to show the course program directly in the repository as an easy way to print a list of courses and their programs. (As of now the two fields »important information« and »course program« don't appear in the repository but this would make a separate feature, imho. But he could put the course program in the description field of the course as a workaround.)
But I think this option doesn't belong in the AdminGUI alone. I rather think that every user should be able to toggle between different amounts of details. It could be an option similar to that on the personal desktop where you could switch the view between 1) just a list with the object titles, 2) object titles with more info and truncated description (like now) and 3) verbose with all available text untruncated. That way every user could chose just how cluttered they want their repository.

5 Implementation

JL 31 Aug 2012: The setting can be found in Administration > General Settings. As all settings should be "positive" it is called "Shorten Description" and will reflect the old behaviour (< 4.3) of limiting the description in list GUIs to 128 characters. It can be deactivated (the complete descriptions are displayed) or set to a different limit. For now there is no setting available for users.
