Ownership Management
1 Description
- Handover of a selection of objects to another user
- Delete selected objects
- Export selected objects
- Move selected objects
- An additional menu item "My Repository Objects" in the personal desktop menu.
- An new tab "My Repository Objects" on the main the workspace screen.
- Somewhere under "Personal Data and Profile"
Additionally admins should also be able to get an overview of objects owned by a user, also an overview on objects without any owner. The admin should be able to execute the same commands above. This function will be placed in an additional tab in the user editing screen. The tab will hold a table with a filter that at least includes the object type.
User Deletion Workflow: We discussed, whether ILIAS should present a list of owned objects when a user is deleted. Our current preference is not to do this. Admins should either take care of the objects before deleting the users or afterwards (using the list of objects that are not assigne to any user).
If a user hands over objects to another user, the receiving user gets an email notification.
All changes of ownership should be written to the permission log.
It is important that the feature checks the permission of the owner of the object. All objects owned by the user (that fit to the filter criterias) are listed in a table. The number of rows should be limited to 30 max. (Read) Permission should be checked only for the objects displayed on the current page. If read permission is given, the owner can perform all actions above. If no read permission is given, the repository locations of the objects should be listed, but no actions should be offered.

4 Discussion
AK, MK 12 Dec 2011: We appreciate this feature. An important open question that needs to be tackled, is where to place this function on the personal desktop exactly. This should be discussed with the personal desktop revision.
Two aspects appear suboptimal to me:
- Why are some of the possible actions on the objects in this list next to the title while other ones are in the "Actions" menu?
IMHO, at least "Move" could be integrated into the "Actions" menu (that would be more consistent). - And: If you think of a scenario like "Transferring objects to a successor (e.g., in the job)", what's lacking is the option to do an operation on more than one or even all objects in the list.
JF 30 May 2012: If an object is linked at mulitple locations, each one should be listed separately (one row per ref id). This way all actions can be listed in the actions drop down.
5 Implementation
JL 31 Aug 2012: The GUI can be found in "Personal Workspace". Every reference of an object is listed in a separate line to simplify the actions. Each action more or less links to its corresponding GUI in the repository and will open a new window. (Administrators will find the same functionality in User Accounts for each user.)

JL 18 Sep 2012: Objects which no or an invalid owner can now be handled in Administration > General Settings > System Check > Ownerless Objects.
