4 Discussion
JF 6 Feb 2012: We highly appreciate the idea.
Pascal, 07 Feb 2012: From the usability and accessebility point of view captchas should be avoided if ever possible. There are other good solutions to reduce spam in public forms / forums / wikis as to checke the http referer, measure the time someone needs to fill in the form, use an external spam list and so on. Please consider such a solution before implementing a captcha.
JF 22 Feb 2012: Unfortunately the captcha solution is the only one that has currently been funded. Since this is an optional feature, each institution can decide whether it should be used or not.
Matthias Kunkel, 16 May 2012: Where do I activate the captcha feature? Please add some more information to the description above.
Administration » Basic Settings » Public area » Activate Captcha for Anonymous (Forum/Wiki)
This is actually not yet activated in ilias.de/test43
Matthias Kunkel, 10 July 2012: At the time being the feature is placed on the Basic Settings screen. But I see it more as a Privacy and Security issue. Therefore I recommend to move it to this Administration section - especially because the Basic Settings screen is already full of options. And as long we are not able to place one setting on two administration screens, Privacy and Security might be the better place.
José R. Balsas, 25 Jun, 2013: It should be interesting activate captcha service in course/group registration process. It could prevent automatic scripts or multitudinous attempts of page reloads when students have to choose a course/group with limited places in a specific date. (We have detected student specific browser macros to automatice group selection on registration activation date!). In some cases, available places for a specific group can be choosen within first 30-40 seconds of registration activation and this supose a gread impact to overall ilias instalation performance.
