Drawing Lots for Membership

1 Description

The registration for courses/groups with a limited number of members can lead to peak accesses and performance breakdowns. If, for example, 300 students want to register for a seminar with 30 free places, many of them try to register at once when the registration period starts and they will refresh the join page permanently.

The extension solves this problem by giving each student within the registration period the same chance to register, so that there is no need to rush anymore. After the end of the registration period the members are determined randomly.

Fred (2010-01-03): can include it in 4.1, if I get a go from the JF

JF 8 Mar 2010: Stefan and Matthias will have a look on this. It takes to much time to dicuss all effects on the course module in the JF. We will decide on it later.
