Improving the Printing of Survey Results
1 Requirements
In vocational education surveys are often used to harvest specific questions /interests and level of prior knowledge before a course starts.
The survey is used as an ice breaker. The results of the survey are printed (as PDF) and then the tutors carries the PDF to the hotel venue where the course takes place. She carries the PDF because the internet connection may be unreliable at the venue. She uses a beamer to present the Print / PDF.
This is what happens A LOT. Believe it or not. Alas, this is not working well, because the print of the survey results looks poorly. What do they do in their plight? The provide their communications department with the survey results, those people create slides from it and send the slides to the tutor.
The sample print below is created from "results" > "Details".
The print should be improved to serve the above scenario:
- Top menue (mail, search, etc) Breadcrum, Action menue, comments and tabs have to die and be removed from print.
- There should be a proper heading comprising title, description, tab, sub-tab, date and maybe printing user.
- We are afraid nothing can be done for table beauty.
- All reports / bulletins on individual questions should be exactly on one page per report / bulletin.

3 Discussion
JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], June 20, 2016: We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for 5.2.
, 19 Aug 2016: I proprose to generally hide the following page elements while printing (using bootstrap's "hidden-print"):
- Main menu (aka complete header)
- Locator
- Tabs incl. sub-tabs
- Head-Action
- Left navigation, e.g. repository tree
- Footer
- Table: num-info incl. columns, rows, views
, 22 Aug 2016: as bootstrap removes all background colors when printing it might also be beneficial to define a (light) border for the ILIAS panel UI component (for media print only). The ILIAS theme heavily relies on the different panel background colors to structure the layout and this is completely lost on hard copies.
JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], August 29, 2016: We support Jörg's suggestion to use 'hidden print' to get rid of navigation elements in survey prints. Jörg will create a dedicated feature wiki page to clarify that this change affects other components in ILIAS too.
, 30 Aug 2016: See Improving print view
4 Implementation
, 23 Aug 2016: This feature has been implemented as described above. The elements outlined above are now hidden while printing.
