Time-based activation of sections

1 Requirements

In some cases there is a need to activate/deactivate images time-based for learning scenarios.

Scenario: some special images are only visible during xmas or other events to make the learning module more personal.

to support these scenarios, we need to have a time based de-/activation of an image in the site editor.

After saving the properties of an image, ILIAS checks the current/new status of the time-based activation. If set, the script creates a temporarily cron-job which change the activation status of the image as set before.

(maybe its easier, not sure if this is the best solution?)

1.1 Alex Killing, 23 May 2014

At least in ILIAS learning module single pages can be activated/deactivated. But I guess this does not fit your needs. I would suggest to add this feature not for media objects, but to the page element "Section" which acts as a container and can hold any other element.

3 Discussion

@akill: sounds great, would fit our needs, too.

Jour Fixe 02 Feb 2015: We appreciate the feature as describe by Alex (time based activation of sections) and schedule it for 5.1

4 Implementation

It is not possible to schedule the activation of single sections in pages within the ILIAS page editor:

  • Edit a page
  • Create or edit a "Section"
