Privacy: User Data Guideline

1 Requirements

This guideline is work in progress.

This guideline determines, what user data (like name, email, address, ...) may be presented to other users. The scenario is that User A is using ILIAS and a feature in ILIAS displays user data of User B.

  • If any "anonymity" setting has been activated (for e.g. anonymous survey), no user related data of User B may be displayed.
  • Any user data field that has been declared as "visible for logged in users/internet" in the profile of User B may always be presented to User A (after logging in).
  • If User A is having write permission for an object that implements use cases for typical tutor/learner scenarios (e.g. course tutor, exercises, ...), ILIAS may always show first name, last name and login of User B. Rationale: Tutors should be able to connect the "virtual user" with a real life person. Any additional fields being displayed must be configurable in the ILIAS administration (see Administration > User Accounts > Settings > Standard Fields (e.g. "Visible in Courses").
  • In all other cases first name and last name may only be displayed, if the profile of User B has been activated (for logged in users or the internet). Otherwise only the login may be displayed.
