General Revision of User Standard Fields

1 Requirements

Since the beginning of ILIAS 3 the list of user standard fields has increased and never been revised. Some of these standard fields are always necessary, other fields are only additional information about the user. On this page we are listing known issues and suggested improvements.

1. Possibility to deactivate single user standard fields in general : At the time being you can hide user standard fields on screens like a user's personal data screen or the registration screen. But it is not possible to hide such fields in the user administration of the system administration - which could be very helpful, e.g.: there are two language fields (text input and selection list) but it is not obvious for a system administrator which is currently supported and which is not needed.
2. Removing of no longer needed fields : Some user standard fields should be removed because they are not needed for the daily business of ILIAS or a migration to "UDF" fields. Candidates are:
   • How did you hear about ILIAS?
   • Interests/Hobbies
   • Delicious Account

The instant messenger fields should be migrated into the "Third Party Software" section.
