file upload: disable automatic news entry

JF 10 Oct 2011: It would be important for us to understand the reason behind this requirement. Currently we do not see a reason to add complexity to the upload form, since the result (having some extra news entries) is not that problematic.

SAT 20 Nov 2011: If we creating a new group and prepare it with information (e.g. lot of files), then the news window is "overflowed" with upload informations about the new files. So if we add some news (by hand) and upload again some files, the "hand" news disapear because of the automatic news entrys (by the files). The problem is, that the user start to ignore the news window because it is overflowed with "standard" upload informations... (yes I know it sounds strange, but our users arent the digital natives...)
We use the news to add important informations about the group (class) and we are reliant on the users that they reading the "hand" news.

Uni Bonn 06 Dec 2012: We totally agree with SAT. Moreover, that case does not only apply to the feature "file upload" but also to automatic news entries generated by changes in wikis or new forum posts. Here, the news box is easily "flooded" as well, pushing aside relevant information. We think the settings page of the news module would be the right place to activate/ deactivate automatic news generation for particular or all objects.
