Streamlining Avatars

1 Initial Problem

A new avatar was introduced as part of the page layout revision. This results in two different avatar representations (see Bugreport).

2 Conceptual Summary

The new circular avatar should replace the old square avatar in ILIAS 7. Therefore the avatar should be adjusted in the following services:

• Who-is-online-Tool
• Comments
• Personal Profile
• Forum
• Mail?
• Visiting Card
• and several more

Next Steps:

• FR wird für ILIAS 8 vorgeschlagen, da einige konzeptionelle Fragen im Raum stehen.
• Jeder Screen, der einen Letter Avatar enthält, muss gesondert betrachtet werden. Eventuell brauchen wir auch eine eckige Form des Avatars? (z.B. Mitgliedergallerie in Kursen/Avatar im Deck of Cards)
• Um die Überführung in die KS richtig anzugehen, sollte ein Listing Panel mit Avatar eingeführt werden oder das Listing Panel mit Lead Image verwendet werden.

9 Discussion

Kruse, Fabian [Fabian], 03.03.2021: I reported a related bug in Mantis 29895: Even if a user would like to replicate the look by uploading a rounded GIF/PNG avatar with transparent background, ILIAS will break the look by converting it into a JPG, which does not have an alpha channel and no transparency support.

Am I right in supposing that implementing the feature as suggested by Oliver and Enrico would also fix my problem?

I think this is a rather small issue, but improving it would contribute to an overall better look at many places in our system.
