1 Reasons to Abandon Feature

In Portfolios there is a possibility to share a portfolio with all registered users. We don't see a use case for this option, want to simplify the sharing process and consider the option questionable from a privacy perspective. For this reason, we want to remove this option.

Strassner, Denis [dstrassner] 09 MAY 2022: This feature is needed if you want to share your consultation hour with all members of a platform via the portfolio, without the detour of a course. We are against the abolition. In addition, is this not needed to use the portfolio as a personal profile?

Killing, Alexander [alex] 3 June 2022: I would prefer the following roadmap:

  • Remove the feature to have a Portfolio set as a Personal Profile. Reasons: a) The two are rendered in very different ways (one only needs a section on the screen, the other needs a multi-tab presentation) and b) the user experience is not consistent, sometimes a click on a user delivers a short profile, sometimes the larger portfolio.
  • Instead the Portfolios shared by the user should be listed/linked in the profile presentation.
  • Links to the consultation hour presentations should also be listed as part of the profile presentation. The configuration of this presentation should be part of the calendar and/or profile settings. No portfolio should be needed to give other users a quick access to the consultation hours.
  • Remove the complex consultation hour presentation from the portfolios. Since the links to the consultation hours are part of the profile, the presentation of the profile within the portfolio gives this access.
  • Configure the possible sharing options (Worldwide, All registered users, ...) within the global Portfolio administration settings.

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], 09 JUN 2022 : We discussed this feature request today at ILIAS NRW meeting and several institutions are against the suggestion to remove the option to share a portfolio with all registered users. If some institutions do not want to offer this options to their users, a setting (like for sharing with the world) would be fully sufficient. Those institutions that do want their users to share a portfolio with all other users on the platform could deactivate this options. All others will still have this feature and use it according to their needs.

I fully agree with Alexander's suggestion to remove the option to have a portfolio as personal profile and to show a link to it on the profile instead. This would allow us to always present the personal profile of a user as a modal - which makes it easy to return to the page where one clicked on the username.
