1 Requirements

In ILIAS Version 4.4 a new translation functionality and multilinguality for some repository objects like categories and learning modules has been introduced. This feature request for Version 5.1 aims at extending this object translation functionality to (1) folders, (2) item groups, (3) groups, (4) courses, (5) course reference, (6) tests and (7) all question types.

(1) Requirements for folders:

  • Folders need multilinguality support similar to categories. In fact, the available implementation for categories can be easily adapted to these needs.
  • Multilingual title and description
  • Multilingual page editor content
(2) Requirements for item groups:
  • Item groups need multilinguality support similar to categories. In fact, the available implementation for categories can be easily adapted to these needs.
  • Multilingual title and description
(3) Requirements for groups:
  • Multilingual title and description as well as group info
(4) Requirements for courses:
  • Multilingual title and description as well as course info (important information and course programme)
(5) Requirements for course references:
  • On creation all multilingal titles of the course need to be saved

Requirements for tests and for question types have been moved to the page Translation Functionality for Tests.

3 Discussion

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], June 08, 2015: Due to conceptual differences we have divided this page in two: Extended Translation Functionality for Container (this one) and Translation Functionality for Tests.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 8 June 2015: We appreciate the feature and schedule it for 5.1.

  • For item groups the "description" property can be abandonded, since it is not used.
  • We also would like to revise the editing of properties that provide translations. The properties should stay in their orginal forms. The multilinguality settings screen should only list the supported languages and make a decision on the default language. For properties the values of the default language should always be used for the input fields in the original form. Below the input fields a link "Translations (number of available translations)" should open a bootstrap modal dialog, where the translations (for this field) can be edited.

Zenzen, Enrico [ezenzen], 03 AUG 2022: This request no longer fulfills the requirements of the Feature Wiki. In consultation with the maintainer I change the status of the feature request to "Redundant / outdated". If the request is still relevant, please update template and mockups.
