Types for Organisational Units

1 Requirements

The organisational units features allows it to structure the user base of an ILIAS installation in a hierarchical way. To discriminate users within organisational units one could use the predefined superior and employee roles or define custom roles for the given scenario.
For the organisational units themselves there is no clean way to discriminate them programmatically. This would be a helpfull feature if e.g. there are different firms to be represented in one ILIAS installation. Instead of relying on weak criteria like the name of an org-unit or its position in the tree, one could introduce two types for org-units, representing the two firms.

4 Discussion

MST, 14 Apr 2014: I support this request.

SW, 6 May 2014: We have implemented the types for OrgUnits according to the concept of Concepts and Training (see section 1).
There was one additional feature introduced we thought that would be useful and we'd like to discuss: Custom Icons for OrgUnits. If Custom Icons are enabled in the repository settings, one can upload a Custom Icon for an OrgUnit type. All OrgUnits having the type assigned are then showed with the new Icon in the tree, header and object list. This makes it possible to also visually distinct OrgUnits having different types. The screenshot below shows some examples. What do you think about the idea?

JF 12 May 2014: We appreciate this feature (including the icons) and schedule it for 4.5.
