Multiple Choice K/Kprim
Page Overview
[Hide]1 Description
In addition to the discussion about Option to Obligate Test Questions we'd like to approve a new type of question: This should be a "Multiple Choice Vierfache Entscheidung richtig/falsch" (Typ K' called Kprim) question and means a fourtimes decision true/false.
Definition:
"Auf eine Frage oder unvollständige Aussage folgen vier Antworten oder Ergänzungen. Für jede muss entschieden werden, ob sie richtig oder falsch ist. Um einen Punkt zu erhalten, müssen alle vier Beurteilungen korrekt sein. Es hat sich als sinnvoll erwiesen, drei korrekte Beurteilungen bereits mit einem halben Punkt zu honorieren."
This new type is often used in medical and psychological environments. We add some references to explain this special type.
Hint for implementation: Because of the definition, this type has four text fields as default. But you can add more if you like. The field "Werte" should be adapted automatically, if someone add another text field.
This new "Multiple Choice K'/Kprim" could have an obligate option.
New mockups!

4 Discussion
JF 10 Oct 2011: There are two aspects in this requirement:
- Presentation: The presentation of the answer screen using radio boxes instead of checkbox, could be just an option in the existing multiple choice question type. The table columns should not use +/- but richtig/falsch.
- Scoring: Is the new way of editing the scoring really necessary? If so, it could also be an option in the existing question type "multiple choice" to use the the "traditional" ILIAS way to calculate (and editing) the scoring or this new approach.
BH & MB, 14 Nov 2012:
We looked through this proposal and see there was no recent activity on it. Is this feature request still active?
04.03.2013 (frawadi): The possibility to use the k-prim-feature in ILIAS would be great for us at Univ. of Giessen because we already use k-prim in our scanner-exams with Fred & Klaus from Blubbsoft. Our intention is to develop exams in ILIAS and export them to “Klaus” if we can’t realize an exam with ILIAS EA.
15.03.2013 (mklehr, Philipps-Universität Marburg): We highly appreciate this feature! K-prim-Questions are already used in out department of geography (paper&pencil-Tests) an in IMS-m (Item-Management-System Medizin). They would also be an alternative to MC-Questions using negative points, which are controversial due to juridical reasons.
15.3.2013: Jour-fixe asked: "Scoring: Is the new way of editing the scoring really necessary?" Our answer: Yes it is necessary. The new question-type "Multiple Choice (Kprim)" is well documented and widely used. The implementation should also have usability-improvements (Upload graphic must be simpler).
Implementation: See the attachments below:
- "Mockup MC-Kprim Admin mark.png" and
- "Analyse MCs Final.pdf"»Empfehlung 1 (page4)
JF 18 Mar 2013: We highly appreciate the question type and schedule it for 4.4. It is important for us to see, that three different institutions have a strong need for this question type. We would ask the University of Berne to get an agreement on a final concept from Marburg and Giessen.
HJL, 1.4.2013: Marburg and Giessen agree with this concept (pdf and png-Mockup).
HL., 13.2.2014: A remark to the following JourFixe comment:
"Presentation: The presentation of the answer screen using radio boxes instead of checkbox, could be just an option in the existing multiple choice question type. The table columns should not use +/- but richtig/falsch."
Our comment:
The wording "Richtig"/"Falsch" is in some cases the correct wording for this question-type.
But in higher education, teaching is the "Weitergabe der Grundlagen des wissenschaftlichen Forschens und die Vermittlung eines Überblicks über das Wissen eines Forschungsfelds (den sogenannten aktuellen Stand der Forschung)." So in many cases, true/false could not be the right implementation. We MUST give the authors the following addidtional choices:
a) richtig/falsch
b) zutreffend/nicht zutreffend
c) adäquat/nicht adäquat
d) +/-
e) other/own expressions: ......../.........
With these options, the question author is free by constructing his stem.
HL., 3.3.2014: In the New mockups, you can see that we do want also a usability improvement for question-authors.
BH 12 May 2014: The maintainers appriciate the implementation of this feature as new question type. We also appriciate a configuration of the expressions for true/false by selecting pre defined values or entering custom values.
JF 12 May 2014: We appreciate this feature and schedule it for 4.5. the true/false terms should be implemented as a radio group including with the options listed in HJLs comment of 13.2.2014.
5 Implementation
BH 18 September 2014: Feature is implemented and ready for acceptance. We had to change the order of the elements within the editing form a bit.
Question types supporting the post correction feature must following a structure containing three parts:
- Question Generic Part
- Question Specific Part
- Answer Specific Part
Matthias Kunkel, 15 Jan 2015: I have added screenshot from the latest implementation of KPrim question type.
6 Test-Cases
YS/HL, 27 May 2014: Test cases for Kprim-Question are collected by iLUB from Universität Bern on the authority of Databay.
initial = must be tested in first testing only
wk = (dt. wiederkehrend) must be tested for every new ILIAS-version
