2.2 Mantis Bug Reports

All open issues reported or modified since the last Jour Fixe were screened by the product manager before the Jour Fixe and assigned to the responsible developers if necessary. The following issues were discussed in detail:

  1. #28824: Unable to create visible mainmenu entry for anonymous users: This behaviour has not been implemented yet. Therefore, I close this bug. But there is already a related feature request for ILIAS 7, see here: https://docu.ilias.de/goto_docu_wiki_wpage_6433_1357.html. Please push this request if the ILIAS main menu should be extended in this way.
Postponed due to absence of reporter / maintainer:

2.3 Bugfixing Statistic

Skipped today due to problems with the related script.

2.4 Open Pull Requests to Discuss

The following pull requests in the ILIAS GitHub repository were marked with 'Jour Fixe' this morning:
  1. PR • :

2.5 Continuous Integration

Overview on current status and reports from CI-server at http://ci.ilias.de and https://travis-ci.com/ILIAS-eLearning/ILIAS/builds:
  • Dashboard: https://ilias-elearning.github.io/CI-Results
  • automated tests: 5063 ( +51) passing unit tests in trunk on PHP 7.3 and PHP 7.4 since JF 2020-09-14
  • results of dicto architectural tests
    • +/-0 violation resolved/added since 2020-09-14
  • Please run unit tests locally and apply the style fixer before committing.
  • Fabian (ILIAS e.V.) and Laura (CaT) are currently working on automating the packaging via Travis
  • Next meeting of CI-Group will be announced. Please contact richard.klees@concepts-and-training.de if you like to join.
    • If you know anyone who is somewhere between developer, administrator and hacker, maybe knows bash and likes to play with obscure tools on the internet: softly nudge her or him to join the group. We need (wo)man-power to make our developers more effective by automating stuff for them!
    • Richard still doesn't find time to run this. Is there anyone who wants to step up?

2.6 Performance monitoring:

Postponed until Pascal joins JF again.

3 Developing ILIAS 7

3.1 Development Issues

Development issues and topics related to ILIAS versions 7

  1. Page Editor » Page Editing

    1. The behaviour for selecting page elements by double-clicking them is to be changed through a ViewControl to use editing mode or selecting mode.
    2. Follow-up regarding some details in the edit mode of the page. (create button, more visible page structure, hover behavior, background of elements)
    3. Result from meetings of the UI Clinic regarding the delay in UI development
    JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe]:
    • We accept the suggested ViewControl to distinct between 'editing' mode and 'selecting' mode.
    • We agree with the suggested changes for create buttons, page structure and background of elements. Hover behaviour of elements is accepted as well but will be evaluated in a life system to make a final decision if all parent elements are marked or only the first parent one.
  2. Current implementation of "Multilingualism": the language selection in "Multlingualism" is not related to the supported languages in ILIAS but to the long list of existing languages in the world. No doubt that the current implementation works. But it is a bit weired. Shouldn't we modify this feature in the nearer future and offer just the languages ILIAS really supports and that a user can choose?

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe]: We will discuss this problem with another feature request about Advanced Metadata at the next JF.

3.2 Suggested Features

  1. Setup - Add migrate Command: We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for ILIAS 7. A first use case could be the planned migration of the file system.

  2. Setup - Abandon Maintenance Mode: We highly appreciate this suggestion and abandon the maintenance mode for ILIAS installations. Please remove related code.

  3. Multilingualism for Wikis: We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for ILIAS7. Unlike shown on the screenshot in section "Page Overview", all pages do always exist in master language. Having the workflow for creating a new page would be nice as modal if possible. And please clarify the use case of a wiki with pages in multiple languages to understand the need of the feature and distinct it from other approaches (like MediaWiki).

  4. Set Personal Starting Point Calendar Mode: We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for ILIAS 7. We would like to have this way of pre-configuring the calendar mode for the calendar as well - independent from the Starting Point feature. In both cases, a changed personal setting will overwrite the mode selected by this feature.

  5. Deactivate option Cannot Participate: We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for ILIAS 7. We prefer a solution per session and not a general setting in the administration.

  6. Registration Procedure: No Registration Possible: We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for ILIAS 7. We prefer to rename the existing option "No registration possible" to "Without registration" and put it an the end of the list of options.

  7. Clean up the member view: We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for ILIAS 7. We prefer to close the member view automatically when a user navigates outside the course (tree up).

  8. Transfer Items to TopItems: We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for ILIAS 7. It should be possible to create repository links as top level items directly.

4 Miscellaneous

Git Hub

Release 5.4 is still default branch. It should be Release_6. Will be changed by Richard.
