SCORM 2004 content editor

1 Description

The first implementation of the SCORM editor uses the standard ILIAS page editor to create the basic content pages. Multiple pages are put into a SCO a "sharable content object" which has a (set of) learning objectives. Chapters are used to include mutlipe SCOs:
  • SCORM module contains...
  • Chapters contain...
  • SCOs cotain...
  • Pages
In contrast to the ILIAS native learning modules, the SCORM pages can contain self-assessment questions. For this purpose the question editing components of the ILIAS test & assessment module are reused. The SCORM editor supports export to SCORM 1.2, 2004, PDF and ISO CD images.

2 Status

  • Scheduled for Release: ILIAS 4.0
  • Funding: Funded by ISN ETH Zurich
  • Development: Feature is to be developed by LEIFOS, Hendrik Holtmann, Aurealis / Helmut Schottmüller and others

4 Discussion

There are several issues not available yet within the ILIAS SCORM 2004 editor.
The following feature requirements have been communicated between interested parties:

Description

Use Case

Involved SCORM variables

Integration of assets into SCORM modules

Assets are components of a SCORM module which are not used in the framework of a SCO and, thus, are not subject to the functionalities of the module like tracking.

Introduction page the processing of which does not contribute to the completion threshold but though is supposed to appear in the SCORM navigation.

Enter a value for the completion threshold that is supposed to be achieved while processing a SCO

Completion threshold indicates to what extent a SCO has been processed ("completed")

  • cmi.completion_threshold
  • cmi.progress_measures
  • cmi.completion_status

Entry field for defining a value that will be preselected across an entire module

Option to enter individual values while creating SCOs

Option to except single pages from the completion threshold tracking

Instructional advice on how to proceed in the module (optional content)

Entry fields for defining a "weight" for each page

Enter a percentage value for the success criterion to be complied with while processing the questions within a SCO

The success criterion indicates to what extent the questions within a SCO have been processed success-fully ("passed")

For example, a SCO is supposed to be passed if 70 % of the achievable scores are achieved. By now, a SCO can only be passed by achieving 100 %.

  • cmi.credit
  • cmi.scaled_passing_score
  • cmi.score.min
  • cmi.score.max
  • cmi.score.raw
  • cmi.score.scaled
  • cmi.success_status

Entry fields for defining a relative or absolute success criterion for each SCO

Option to except single questions from the success criterion tracking

Integration of questions for practice, for explorative learning, for activation, etc.

Overview of completion threshold and success criterion details across the SCORM module

Use of ILIAS question pools from within the module

Possibility of randomized question selection in the context of the SCORM editor

  • In case the user did not comply with the success criterion, different questions are supposed to be asked in the next try.
  • Cribbing between users can be avoided.

SCORM module delivers a certificate for a specific topic.
