4 Discussion

JF 17 May 2010: We highly appreciate the idea. We also could imagine to add a "login block" to the public area entry page (maybe as overlay).

Matthias Kunkel, 30 Jan 2011: We should use this extension of the login page to move its administration from the current position (Administration > Authentication and Registration > Authentication > Login Information) and give it its own tab.

And please rethink the handling of language versions. At the time being, input / edit fields are shown for _each_ activated language. But: Often you are offering the ILIAS interface to people in their own language but you are not able to offer a localised login page, too.

Suggestion for this: Offer the handling known from categories, which means: you have language support for one language (default language). If want to add a second localised login page, you add the page for this language (and so on). Languages that have no own login page are using the default language version (mostly English). This is by far the better implementation that the current one.

Matthias Kunkel, 30 January 2012: After working a bit with the new login screen editor I have some suggestions to improve it's usability and improve the output.
  1. Transfering the content from the old to the new editor would be fine - even only as unformatted text. At the time being I have to open all language versions of the old Tiny editor, then switch to the new editor and paste the additional page content in the ILIAS page editor.
  2. Enabling the style sheet editor for the login screen is very important to create a satisfying layout. Otherwise I have nearly no possibilities to layout the page (as long as I do not want to start adding divs and embedded style sheet information).
  3. Handling the different login screen elements is great. But a separation of the four elements "New user registration", "Public Area", "Forgot Password" and "Forgot Username" is necessary, too. I wanted to add some additional information for the registration. But if add this link as a page element i get also the three other ones - which is more confusing than the current uncommented presentation (so I didn't used this option).
  4. Padding before and after the login screen elements is different if you embed them in the page editor – try it out with the login mask.
  5. The width of the editable login screen should be set on the login screen editor. I do not want to make changes on this screen and on the template, too. Why not overwritting the default width with an optional value of the login screen editor. If you want to implement a two-column layout the current width is to narrow anyway...
  6. Finally, I pick up my suggestion above (last posting) and recommend to move the login page editor from the current position to a higher level. It is not self-explaining to find this page within the authentication settings.

JF 6 2012: Stefan will have  a detailed look on the suggestions and split them into usability issues that can be fixed with 4.2 and feature requests.
