Tabs

Display Glossary Terms and Media Objects in ILIAS Learning Moduls in Slate

1 Initial Problem

Due to the new page layout in ILIAS 6.0, the content area of learning module views with multiple windows is strongly compressed. Content is difficult to read and is no longer the focus of the page.

According to the current state of development, the Learning Module Layouts, especially the layouts with several windows, are presented in ILIAS 6.0 as follows:

ILIAS LM - Default Layout (3 Three Windows) in ILIAS 6.0

2 Conceptual Summary

In order to solve the space problem, glossary terms and media objects that are integrated into a learning module should be displayed in ILIAS 6.0 in the slate.

2.1 Behaviour

Glossary Terms
1. Users click on a word stored in the auto-linked glossary.
2. In the tool area in the Slate a new tab "Glossary" opens in which the glossary term is displayed.
3.a Users can use the "X" to close the "Glossary"-tab.
3.b Users can leave the "Glossary"-tab open and collapse the slate.

Media Objects
1. Users click on a word that links to a Media Object.
2. In the tool area in the Slate a new tab "Media Object" opens in which the Media Object is displayed.
3. By clicking on the magnifying glass icon, the fullscreen view opens in a modal.
4.a Users can use the "X" to close the "Media Object"-tab.
4.b Users can leave the "Media Object"-tab open and collapse the slate.

7 Discussion

Killing, Alexander [alex], 7 June 2019: I fully support the idea.

Kergomard, Stephan [skergomard], 17. June 2019: I suppose that only one "Glossary" and one "Media Object" tab can exist (keeping current behaviour), right? So if a user clicks on a second link to a media object the already opened tab would be replaced.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 17 JUN 2019 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for 6.0. Only one tab for glossary terms is presented.
