Additional sorting options for Selected Items

1 Description

The options for sorting 'Selected Items' are not widely used up to now.
There could be additional options that make (more) sense in practice, for example:

  • by frequency of use
  • by last use
  • arbitrary sorting by numbers (like in the Repository)

2 Status

  • Scheduled for: not scheduled yet (has been scheduled for v. 4.3 but postponed due to missing funding)
  • Funding: Required
  • Development: Feature is to be developed by tbd

4 Discussion

Alexandra Tödt, 27 Apr 2011: I strongly support this request by Florian. There should be an option to sort by date. People are so used to having things sorted by date.
This request was adressed to me at the DevConf. It makes perfect sense. Yes, I know, it skrews some of the new PD concepts but nevertheless it is right.
Please consider to order: used latest goes on top.

Jour Fix, 23 May 2011: skipped to next Jour Fixe

JF 20 Jun 2011: We see the necessity of improving this feature. But we also think that there is a broader discussion needed, which also takes into account the relationship between the "Add to Desktop" and the "Bookmarks" and "Last Visited" feature.

AT 2015-02-19: I still feel the need for a different sorting mechanism on the Personal Desktop. I have one client that would like to sort the "Courses and Groups" view accoridng to the start date (extended metadata) of a course.  Thus I have created a page very much like this one for "Selected Items": Additional sorting options for My Courses and Groups

Wegener, Miriam [miriamwegener] 30 Jan 2016: We still would like to have sorting options on the personal desktop. Would it be difficult to implement at least alphabetical sorting ascending and descending?
