Offering only current file version for download:

Option 1: The versioning feature can be deactivated per file object completely (option available in the initial upload form and in edit form). If this is the case, no version information is displayed and new uploads overwrite the existing file.

Option 2: The decision whether the last version should be kept or not is made in the edit form (Option "Overwrite last version").

Option 3: An option "Delete all older versions" is added to the edit form of file objects.

Option 4: At the time being a user can download all versions of a file when READ permission for this file object have been given. But there are scenarios where tutors/authors want only to offer the current version to learners. In the current ILIAS they need to delete the file object (or change it's permission) to make the outdated file unaccessible and to add the new version as a new file object. It would improve usability when a tutor/author could activate an option "Offer only current version for download" and need only to replace the outdated file. When this option is activated, visibility and accessibility of the version list require "WRITE" permission for the file object.

Jour Fixe, 8 Dec 2008: The following issues need to be clarified with the funding institution:

• Which option of the options above should be chosen.
• Currently a change of the title changes the "Last Update" timestamp, too. Should this be prevented in the future?

An option would be to replace the radio buttons with a single checkbox (not activated per default) "Delete All Older Versions".

The title should go below the file upload element as a separate "row", the "File" input should be renamed to "New File":

Open Issue: Should it be possible to deactivate this feature within the administration?
