Abandon ‘View Configuration‘ by UI Workflow in Data Collection

1 Reasons to Abandon Feature

The UI element Workflow has been misused and is simply a buggy element.

  • You are not guided.
  • You are not forwarded.
  • You do not receive any feedback on steps completed in the workflow.
  • You cannot use it to navigate through steps.
  • You cannot see in the steps which part of the workflow you are in.

Finally: Status "Configuration Complete" in "Views" overview does not match the status of the "Workflow" at all.

5 Discussion

Use the following discussion section to express your objections against this request or your consent to get rid of this feature.

Samoila, Oliver [oliver.samoila], 31 May 2024: I would like to ask the JourFixe whether we should remove this function for ILIAS 9 in its early days?
See https://mantis.ilias.de/view.php?id=41455

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], 04 JUN 2024: I understand the reasons to get rid of this element. And I know from my own user experience that it does not work properly in the DC. Nevertheless it tackles a general problem of the DC: its complexity in designing a good data collection and the danger of misconfiguration by forgetting important steps. We have to consider that this danger will increase when abandon this UI element in the DC.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 10 JUN 2024: We highly appreciate this suggestion and abandon the feature with ILIAS 10. We suggest to call for a feature workshop where we could think about how to support users when creating a DC.

6 Implementation

Was implemented for ILIAS 10

As stated here this was also implemented in ILIAS 9 the same way. In addition to that this was also removed from this tableview table in ILIAS 9 since its entangled into it.

This was not required for ILIAS 10 since the tableview legacy-table was already transformed into a modern UI-list as part of the RemovingLUI.

Removed Testcases

The following testcases have been removed from Testrail or modified because the feature is no longer part of the ILIAS core.

  • This feature had no test cases that needed to be removed or adapted.
