Abandon «Alphabetical Navigation in User Administration»

1 Reasons to Abandon Feature

The "Alphabetical Navigation" option is unique in ILIAS and has a peculiar behaviour.

Basically, it is functionally a "First Character of Last Name" filter.

On a technical level, we do not see any UI component that could usefully compensate this.

When using filters, the user is able to produce similar results.

2 Technical Information

The special and idiosyncratic operating behaviour is abandoned. The recurring maintenance of this CSS solution is no longer necessary.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 18 MAR 2024: We highly appreciate this suggestion and abandon the alphabetical navigation already with ILIAS 9. No need to keep it another year.

6 Implementation

The setting has been completely dropped from the database with a migration. The removal for ILIAS 9 was implemented rather minimally so as to not to cause problems at this late stage of development.

Removed Testcases

The following testcases have been removed from Testrail or modified because the feature is no longer part of the ILIAS core.
