Abandon Blog Pages in Portfolios

1 Reasons to Abandon Feature

The feature adds a decent amount of complexity to the portfolio and blog code, since the "embedded" view of blogs in portfolios needs a special treatment. The feature does not seem to be used often, since the resulting UI is also suffering from complexity.

If users still would like to add information about a blog in a portfolio they could simply provide a link to the published blog.

2 Technical Information

5 Discussion

Use the following discussion section to express your objections against this request or your consent to get rid of this feature.

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], 29 DEC 2023: Has this suggestion been discussed with the SIG Portfolio & Kompetenzmanagement? I would be interested in their opinion. Maybe we can get some feedback until the next Jour Fixe where upon this request shall be decided.

Killing, Alexander [alex], 8 Jan 2024: @Matthias No, but the whish has been discussed to improve scalability of the general navigation in the portfolio when using a lot of content. The tabs are currently limited since they use a dropdown, if horizontal space is not sufficient. I asked about the use of blogs for this purposes, but they haven't been used due to their complexity when being embedded in portfolios. This is also reflected in the code, the blogs come with their own navigations concepts (using multiple side blocks) which all need to work within the portfolio context. This also prevents the portfolios from using side blocks for navigational purposes. If users want to feature a blog within a portfolio, a link to the blog is always a possible workaround.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 08 JAN 2024: We highly appreciate this suggestion and abandon the embedding of blogs in portfolios with ILIAS 10.

Killing, Alexander [alex], 18 Jan 2024: This will remove "blog" pages from the portfolios. The existing blogs will stay in the personal workspace.

Lorenz, Katharina [klorenz], 24 Jan 2024: Hi Alex, thanks for your comment. Do I understand correctly that existing, "embedded" blog pages will be removed during the upgrade and have to be included differently, e.g. via a link, as you suggested?

6 Implementation

Blog pages are removed from the portfolios. The existing blogs will stay in the personal workspace.
