Abandon Adding Tags on «Info-Page»

1 Reasons to Abandon Feature

The Info Tab is mostly a read-only form. Adding tags in done in a strange input-cum-save form input.

The Info Tab should advertise the object and should not offer any interaction.

The tags should neither be added nor displayed on the Info tab. I could not state what the added value of the adding and presentings tagsis on the Info tab.

  • Still available: Tag Clouds can still available to be displayed in Courses, Groups and Categories
  • Still available: Adding tags will remain possible via the top actions.

2 Technical Information

{The maintainer has to provide necessary technical information, e.g. dependencies on other ILIAS components, necessary modifications in general services/architecture, potential security or performance issues.}

5 Discussion

Use the following discussion section to express your objections against this request or your consent to get rid of this feature.

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], 06 DEC 2023: I am not sure if I understand the request correctly. You only want to remove the "Save" action from the screen and present "my tags" similar to the tags of all users as read-only, right? But the presentation of tags stays on the Info page as it is? If so, a byline under the presentation of "My Tags" would be helpful for users that were used to add and remove tags with this abandonned input.

Tödt, Alexandra [atoedt], 2023-15-12: All adding and displaying of tags is to be removed from the Info tab. The Info-tab will not comprise the adding interaction or the display of own tags or tags of others.

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], 08 JAN 2024: If we remove the option to enter tags to an object from the 'Info' page, we have to make sure that all object types support adding tags through the Actions dropdown (within and or outside the object). At the time being, the study programme does only support to add tags via Info page.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 08 JAN 2024: We highly appreciate this suggestion and abandon the presentation and editing of tags on the ‘Info‘ page with ILIAS 10. The missing support of adding tags in the Actions of the study programme is considered as bug and will be reported to Mantis and Alexander will check the reason why.

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], 02 DEC 2024: We have caused ourselves a problem with this abandonment request. In several components, information is no longer displayed for users on the info page [1]. The page is empty. Everything is white under the table bar, see screenshots.

If Creative Commons is activated (setting ‘Enable Copyright Selection’ in Metadata Administration), at least the licence information is still displayed in some components. However, if Creative Commons is deactivated, which is the case for many installations, the page for these components also remains empty.

For the category and content page, the info page can be deactivated for each object. However, it is always displayed by default.

The following components are affected [2]:

  • Components that have content on Info page when Copyright Selection is activated:
    • Bibliographic List Item
    • Category
    • Chat
    • Content Page
    • Forum
    • Media Pool
  • Components with no content on Info page at all (even if Creative Commons are active):
    • Study Programme
    • Learning Sequence
    • Booking Pool

An info page without info is IMHO a no-go and looks like a bug to me. We should not publish ILIAS 10 in this state.

One option for 10 could be to at least display a ‘Currently no information available’ message on empty pages. For 11 we would have to find a better solution, e.g. the installation-wide deactivation of the info page for certain object types. We should talk about this in a workshop.

6 Implementation

Remove as specified.

Removed Testcases

The following testcases have been removed from Testrail or modified because the feature is no longer part of the ILIAS core.

  • {Test case number linked to Testrail} : {test case title}

Approval

Approved at 25 Oct 2024 by Killing, Alexander [alex].

[1] Checks below have been made with a user with VISIBLE and READ permissions which are the permisions of a normal user. In some cases users with more information might get additional information. Same when using Custom Metadata for some components.
[2] I could not check all core components on 10 because some are actually buggy.
