Add Mailto Feature in list of Portfolio of Other Users

1 Initial Problem

In order to give feedback to a shared portfolio, the user with whom the portfolio is shared has to navigate to Communication -> Mail -> Compose. Then, he/she has to enter the recipient's name and subject manually. This workflow requires a lot of clicks and manual inputs.

2 Conceptual Summary

We suggest to integrate a Mailto Feature into the list of "Portfolio of Other Users" in order to reduce the click rate. If the user clicks on the Mailto hyperlink the ILIAS mail compose screen opens with the prefilled name of recipient and subject.

9 Discussion

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], 10 JUN 2022 : How about increasing usability and adding two placeholders to the mail form:

  • [Title of Resource] for inserting the correct title of the resource for which the action "Contact" has been clicked.
  • [Link to Resource] for inserting the correct permanent link to the selected resource.

Especially the link placeholder makes it much easier for users to call the shared resource.

And the column Actions has to get dropdowns as there is already an action "Copy" for resources of type "Files" - and we do not want to have two links in a column.

Seiler, Yvonne [yvseiler], 13 JUN 2022: +1 @mkunkel. I would also talk about the language variable again. There is an action "Request Contact" in ILIAS with which you can link a contact to your contact book. Therefore, "Contact" seems to be a bit too close to this action. I would find something like "Send Mail" more appropriate, as it is clearer what a click on this action results in.

Kergomard, Stephan [skergomard], 13 JUN 2022: Couldn't we make this Request a lot smaller, by simpy sending an E-Mail to the user a portfolio is shared with? And stop there?

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 13 JUN 2022 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for ILIAS 9. According to Yvonne's suggestion we prefer to label the action "Send Mail". And we have to make it an action within a dropdown for all resource types (as files have the option "Copy"). Instead of using mail placeholders we prefer to add a short information to the mail text like known from group or course mails where the title and the permanent link of the resource is presented. The subject should not contain "Re:" as it is not a reply but the first message sent.
