Abandon Rich Text Editor for Login Page

1 Reasons to Abandon Feature

In the beginning of ILIAS 3, we only had the Tiny Rich Text Editor to design the login page and to add information to it. Later, the login page could also be edited by using the ILIAS page editor.

As part of the strategy to get rid of a parallel use of Tiny RTE and ILIAS page editor (and to reduce complexity of code), the login page should only be edited with the IPE in the future. Therefore, the option to use the Rich Text Editor should be abandoned with ILIAS 9. Since I assume that the Tiny RTE is only used by very few installations - if at all - there is no need to migrate the content created with the Tiny on the login page.

The option "Use Rich-Text editor" should be removed with ILIAS 9

5 Discussion

Use the following discussion section to express your objections against this request or your consent to get rid of this feature.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 15 MAY 2023 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and accept the removal of the Tiny MCE for editing the login screen with ILIAS 9.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 04 MAR 2024: We still would like to get rid of this outdated option and abandon the use of the Tiny MCE for editing the login screen with ILIAS 10.

6 Implementation

  • TinyMCE / RichTextEditor has been removed.
  • RTE-Content, if existing, is being removed. (ILIAS Page Editor Content remains.)
  • Language variables have been removed.
  • Switched directly to the new UI Data Table.
  • Possibility to define a content style for the Authentication node has been introduced. This concerns the login page and in future also the customisable logout page.
