Abandon TinyMCE formattings in Exercise

1 Reasons to Abandon Feature

There is some confusion around the current support of the TinyMCE editor in the exercises. Currently the text submissions support the use of the TinyMCE editor with full configuration in the administration. The instructions use a non-configurable version with minimal format support.

If we do not get the Use ILIAS page editor in exercise instructions and assignments solution funded, we will remove at least the confusing configuration that is currently used for the text submissions. This means text submissions will use the same minimal version as the instructions.

Kergomard, Stephan [skergomard], 14 MAY 2021: I'm very much in favour of removing TinyMCE whereever possible, but I'm afraid that we would loose quite some functionality here (as well as in: Abandon TinyMCE in News). Wouldn't it be an option to introduce the ILIAS Page Editor for editing? Funding would surely be required, but it would give us a testbed for other places in ILIAS. I also believe that markdown is not an option for learner facing inputs.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 17 MAY 2021 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and abandon the TinyMCE in exercises (instruction and assignment). Instead of the TinyMCE we prefer to use the new ILIAS page editor for both usages. A dedicated feature request "Use ILIAS page editor in exercise instructions and assignments" has to be prepared and can be suggested for ILIAS 8. In this request we will also discuss if we provide an option for a simple text area for assignments (as alternative to the IPE).
