Using ILIAS Page Editor to provide general information of Forum

1 Initial Problem

The forum is difficult to "design".
It is difficult to use central information in a central place.

Often central information, such as "forum netiquette", is placed in a first thread and sometimes also marked as a top topic.
» However, this is more of a work-around than a solution.

2 Conceptual Summary

The central tab "Threads", which is the entrance to the forum, gets the possibility to be designed with the ILIAS Page Editor. (An extended use of the TinyMCE is not desirable.)

The following page elements should be able to be used:

  • Text
  • Image / Audio /Video
  • Data Table
  • Section
  • Column Layout
  • Accordion
  • Advanced List
  • Advanced Table
  • Interactive Image
  • Content Snippet
  • Code
  • File List
  • Map
  • [Page Element via PlugIn]
With the use of the ILIAS Page Editor, it should also be possible to use your own style.

The forum must be included in the list of editor contexts. (Thus, settings for the use of HTML and JavaScript can be made). The requirement can be omitted with the implementation of Abandon HTML/Javascript in Page Editor Text Paragraphs.

Note: We have decided against multilingual use of the editor because it is assumed that this does not make sense for monolingual threads.

9 Discussion

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], 23 SEP 2021: Will it be possible to create a local style for the forum or use one of the global styles that are not defined as standard? This would be highly appreciated.
And off topic: have you already considered of getting rid of the Tiny in the forum at all? This would be a nice project for ILIAS 9 – incl. a feasible solution for migrating content from Tiny to IPE (as a blueprint for the T&A for example).

Kergomard, Stephan [skergomard], 01 OCT 2021: I generally like this feature. I would suggest thou to take advantage of this opportunity to standardize which elements of the page editor should be used where. It sounds completely willy-nilly that you have to specify "In addition to the "typical" page elements (as in courses and other containers), it should be possible to use file lists". I would suggest to standardize for:

  • Container.Objects (including Item-Groups and Sessions)
  • Repository, Noncontainer-Objects
  • "Personal Objects"

Samoila, Oliver [oliver.samoila], 04 OCT 2021: Thanks for your feedback.

  • @Matthias: Yes, with the use of the editor, it should also be possible to use your own style. This would only be excluded by configuring the platform accordingly. I am also looking at the idea of replacing the TinyMCE with the ILIAS editor for ILIAS 9. I think this is a very valuable step.
  • @Stephan: You are right ;) I had already made a more sensible subdivision in this request. I have included a list in the article that speaks for itself.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 04 OCT 2021: We highly appreciate this suggestion and accept the feature request for ILIAS 8.
