WYSIWYG and chapter-wise editing

1 Description

Basically, WYSIWYG editing for a whole wiki page would be our goal. But since the page editor has elements (Tabs/Accordions), which can’t be editied through WYSIWYG, it must be approached differently. Three aspects for the implementation of a simplified wiki editing are suggested:
  1. Context: When editing a text block, it should stay in the wiki page context. Meaning there is no separate view when editing.
  2. WYSIWYG: Should be available at least within text blocks.
  3. Chapter-wise: When saving a text section, it should not be subdivided into all style elements, but held together from headline 1 to headline 1 (within text blocks).

Justification: Simplified editing.

4 Discussion

Elba2 Meeting, 10 Mar 2010: Implemenation is planned as discribed. The icons will be identical to the TinyMCE editor in the Forum.

M. Kunkel, A. Killing, 1 Apr 2011: We confirm the feature for 4.2 (inline editing, WYSIWIG editing).

5 Follow-up

Skypemeeting with AK and MK - 2011-02-11:

Wiki - Editor

-> Latex unter Zeichenformat
-> Fussnote: Wir suchen noch ein bessers Zeichen. Ansonsten bleiben wir bei Fn
-> B, U, I -> Optional einschaltbar, falls eingeschaltet, werden stark betonter Text, betonter Text, ... beim Zeichenformats-Dropdown nicht angezeigt.
-> Übernehmen, Speichern -> Speichern und zurück, Speichern

Matthias Kunkel, 19 Sep 2011: The new ILIAS page editor makes editing much easier and comfortable. After using it for a while I noticed that one option is still missing that would be a big simplification for autors - the option "Save and New". This would be a fourth option besides "Save", "Save and Return" and "Cancel". But it would force authors to create new paragraphs instead of adding double break lines. And you get rid of three additional clicks to write a new paragraph (Save and Return, click on placeholder, select Add text).

JF 7 Nov 2011: We appreciate the "Save and New" feature and would like to implement it in ILIAS 4.3, see Save Paragraph And Add New.
