Use Mediapool objects in Mediacasts
Page Overview
[Hide]1 Initial Problem
Mediapools allow administrators to organize video, audio and image content and allow for easy reuse across learning modules, wikis, and other locations that use the integrated page editor.
However it is not possible to reuse content from mediapools in mediacasts. It is also not possible to reuse content from one mediacast in another mediacast.
2 Conceptual Summary
Priviledged users can reuse content from mediapools in mediacasts.
3 User Interface Modifications
3.1 List of Affected Views
Mediacast > Content > Manage > Add
3.2 User Interface Details
- Clicking on "Content> Manage> Add" opens a page with two sub-tabs "New Media Object" and "Choose From Media Pool"
- The "New Media Object" sub-tab is opened by default and contains today's form for direct upload
- Alternatively, the user can switch to the second sub-tab "Choose From Media Pool" and select a media pool there and then link any media object
- For every subsequent visit to "Content> Manage> Add", the sub-tab that was last used is opened first
- The "viewed" status of a video, which relates to the learning progress of Mediacasts, is synchronized across all links.
- If a video is linked into several mediacasts and is relevant for learning progress, the same learning status for the video also results in each mediacast.

9 Discussion
Killing, Alexander [alex], 10 May 2020: I support the feature in general. But I would adapt the creation process to the general way repo objects and components in the revised page editor are being used, so I suggest to use an accordion with the options
- Upload File
- File Input
- Use external URL resource
- Text Input
- Choose from Media Pool
- Step 1: Media Pool Selection (Repository Picker with Modal)
- Step 2: List of Media Items (existing view) and "Insert" action
JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 25 MAY 2020 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for ILIAS 7. We prefer Alexander's suggestion for adding objects from media pools as posted above on May 10.
