Learning Progress for Videos according to viewing progress

1 Initial Problem

Mediacasts support learning progress as of ILIAS 5.1 (see Learning Progress for Mediacasts). This is supposed to help users identify which materials they have already worked with.

However the learning progress for videos switches to "completed" when the video starts to play. When a user aborts the video early, it will still be marked as "completed", although the user hasn't seen most of it.

2 Conceptual Summary

  • Videos in media casts will only be marked as completed when the users viewing progress passes a certain percentage (= defaults to 80 %)
  • The percentage threshold can be configured globally (default= 80% for new installations and 0% for updates)

3 User Interface Modifications

4 Technical Information

ILIAS will not track, if the complete time period from 0% to 80% has been played. So setting the time manually to e.g. 70% and "passing the 80% limit" triggers the lp status.

5 Privacy Information

ILIAS already tracked when media cast items have been visited. Now tracks addionally, if the 80% limit has been reached.

6 Security Implications

No security issues.
