Moving Objects in Media Pools
Page Overview
[Hide]1 Initial Problem
Media pools are very useful to manage large collections of media objects in hierarchical folder structures.
However it is NOT possible to move existing media objects or folders within a media pool. If you want to change a structure, you have to delete+create (or delete+link) existing objects/folders.
2 Conceptual Summary
- Privileged users (=anyone with write permission) can change the folder structure and move media objects within a given media pool.
- Privileged users can select a bunch of media objects and/or folders and copy-paste them to a folder in any media pool
- requires READ-permission in the SOURCE media pool
- and WRITE-permission in the TARGET media pool
- Privileged users can move folders and media objects arbitrarily
- within the media pool
- to any other media pool (with write permission)

- Note
- Media objects will still exist in the mediacast when their original instance in a media pool gets deleted after copying that instance to the mediacast.
- Nice to have
- "move to clipboard" (from media pool) and "move to media pool" (from clipboard). Today there is only copy instead of move.
Tödt, Alexandra [atoedt] This is a great suggestion, very much appreciated. I had to delete and re-upload tons of media objects in my life.
JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 23 NOV 2020 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for ILIAS 8. Moving objects within the media pool will also support content snippets.
