Abandon Bookmarks

1 Reasons to Abandon Feature

"Bookmarks" are rarely used feature in ILIAS. Learners are used to manage and share their bookmarks to other websites via the browser or other means.

With ILIAS 6.0, we plan to focus on the concept of favourite ressources within the platform (formerly known as "put on desktop") and a quick overview and navigation to these elements in ILIAS.

Open question is, if we simply abandon the feature or if we need to support some sort of migration or export in 6.0.

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], 07 APR 2019: Could existing bookmarks that point on ressources within the own installation be transformed to "Favourites" easily? This would save at least the bookmarks on internal objects for those users that have used this feature in the past. And it would strengthen the "Favourites" feature. And we accept the removal of bookmarks, the feature request Navigational Slates «Favourites» and «Tags» needs to be updated as well.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 24 APR 2019 : We accept this suggestion and decide to abandon the Bookmarks feature with ILIAS 6.0. We keep the discussion open about a migration of existing bookmarks to a personal web resource object in the Personal Workspace. This would require a feature request for "Web Resource on Personal Workspace".

Oh, good to know... I still use this feature. So I have to save them elsewhere in ILIAS.
