Overview Metabar Content

This feature request is a part of the General Layout and Menu Revision. It collects the metabar items, that should be visible in ILIAS 6.0. It shows the state of the different conceptual/development range.

Default Configuration of Main Bar Items (ILIAS 6) is laying out suggestion for main bar in ILIAS 6.0.

The attached PDF-file provides an overview of the current status of the Page Layout Rersion. All elements of the new layout are described and clearly separated. Mock Ups help you to uniquely identify the elements. In addition, rules are defined for the behavior of all elements.

1 Initial Problem

The items in the upper right corner of ILIAS are a collection of tools designed to attract the user's attention.

With the concept of General Layout and Menu Revision and ILIAS 6.0 there is a new concept for the Metabar (top menu bar) which items should get a place in this prominent place. This also depends on the Default Configuration of Main Bar Items (ILIAS 6).

2 Conceptual Summary

The Meta Bar is a unique page section to accomodate elements that * should permamently be in sight of the user. * The Meta Bar shall, first of all, host Prompts, i.e. notifications * from the System to the user, but may also accomodate components and * links deemed important, like help or search. The content of the bar * does not change when navigating the system, but may depend on a * configuration. (source: PR)

7 Discussion

Killing, Alexander [alex], 29 Jan 2019: I have been asked to put this on the JF agenda, but I am not sure how to discuss this. I am listed as maintainer (Fabian too), but I think configuration is not necessarily something we should decide upon. Even more crucial, do we have a FW request for a Customisable Metabar at all? Something like Customisable Main Menu for the metabar? It think this is missing.

Seiler, Yvonne [yvseiler], 30 JAN 2019: That was a misunderstanding. This entry is not about introducing a customizable metabar. I have now changed the name of the page.

It is a decoupling from the discussion of the Main Menu entries and it should not get lost which elements in the discussion were regarded as entries in the Metabar at that time. Currently this page is to be understood as an overview of the steps still to be taken (what has to be done with "Help", "Search", "Notification Center", etc. to fit into the Metabar of ILIAS 6.0). As soon as we know how the "Help" behaves (see column Effect), we can link the corresponding FW pages here.

I removed the FW entry here from the JF agenda.

Killing, Alexander [alex], 31 Jan 2019: Sorry for my misunderstanding. I think it is a good idea to discuss this in JF, I would suggest that Matthias as a PM leads this topic, since multiple maintainers are involved and this is a very general issue and decision.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 04 FEB 2019 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and accept the mentioned items for the metabar. Related questions for selected items will be discussed in separate feature requests, e.g. notification center. Nevertheless, we still might change this list of items in case of implementation problems or other conceptual issues.
