Improved Creative Commons Support : Usage

The original page "Improved Creative Commons Support" has been split up in three pages due to the different character of requested features:

1 Initial Problem

With the rise of open educational resources Creative Commons support becomes more and more important in ILIAS. But the current support of CC licences in ILIAS still has some shortcomings:
  • It is not possible in the copyright administration to see which of the offered licences are used by which objects. At the time being, only the number of objects are listed.

2 Conceptual Summary

The problems described above should be solved as follows:

The numbers presented in column 'Usage' of the table of 'Copyright Defaults' in the Metadata administration should become a link and opens a modal where all repository objects are listed that are assigned to this copyright licence.
The following information is shown for each of the listes items:
  • Title/Description
  • Links to all references of the object
  • Number of usages (e.g lm pages)
  • Owner of the object (links to Personal Profile if enabled)
A table filter allows to filter by
  • Title
  • Object Type
Copyright entries that are assigned  to non repository objects (e.g learning module chapters/pages) are not listed as single item.

3 User Interface Modifications

3.1 List of Affected Views

  • Administration » Metadata » Copyright

3.2 User Interface Details

  • Number in columns "Usage" should become a link (except if number is "0").
  • Clicking on number opens a modal
  • Title of copyright is title of modal
  • Message box should show text "This licence is assigned to the following objects:"
  • Object titles should be links and re-direct to the repository object.
  • "Cancel" button is offered to close modal and return to overview of licences.

3.3 New User Interface Concepts

4 Technical Information

The usage of copyright entries assigned to media objects does not store the repository object id in the standard lom meta data tables.
Currently it is not possible to link directly to the metadata sesction of repository objects. This would require a permanent meta data link implementation for each repository  object type supporting meta data.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 30 JUL 2018 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule it for 5.4. We would like to have an action "Show Usage" per licence instead of a linked number in the overview of licences. And the licence screen should mention that only repository objects are listed below (and no media objects or LM pages). An extension of the metadata service by an additional interface that asks components for licence related information would be highly appreciated but is not part of this request.
